Proximal humerus fractures require fixation strategies tailored to fracture pattern, bone quality, and the need for medial calcar support. The APTUS Proximal Humerus System provides reliable fixation and strength across a broad range of fracture patterns. An optional spiral blade provides additional calcar support when clinically required, offering reinforcement where it matters most. The plate is designed for distal placement on the greater tuberosity, to help reduce the risk of subacromial impingement.

Load test results showed construct stability above (with blade) or comparable (without blade) to other established fixation systems. 

Surgical Options

When addressing a fracture pattern that requires additional medial support of the proximal humerus, the plate can be combined with the spiral blade 40° or the spiral blade 50°. These spiral blades provide additional calcar support to the plate-screw-construct in the medial bone tissue. In addition, the long plate (XL) types of the system enable the management of fracture patterns that extend to the humeral shaft.

    This prospective study reports on 17 patients with a displaced fracture of the proximal humerus, treated with a APTUS Proximal Humeral Plate 3.5, either with the helical blade to support the calcar, or without it. Patients in this cohort achieved good functional results. The authors found that insertion of the blade significantly reduced the occurrence of seconday varus displacement compared to fixation with the polyaxial plate fixations alone.
