Back to Music - With the help of the KeriMedical's TOUCH prosthesis

Wolfgang is a passionate musician. He played guitar as a young man and worked internationally as a concert manager for many years. Music has always been an important part of his life. During the coronavirus pandemic, he took up the guitar more intensively again - until his left hand suddenly started giving him problems.

Restrictions in the thumb saddle joint affect everyday life as a whole

What started out harmlessly quickly became a major limitation. Wolfgang had such severe pain in his thumb saddle joint that he could hardly grip anything. Opening a jam jar, fastening buttons or riding a motorbike? Hardly feasible. Playing the guitar was out of the question.

The first treatment considered was a trapeziectomy - a procedure in which a carpal bone is removed. However, the healing phase often takes many months before the hand is fully functional again. This was not an attractive prospect for Wolfgang.

Back to music after 8 weeks

After extensive consultation with Dr Thomas Krohn, he finally opted for the KeriMedical TOUCH prosthesis, which Medartis sells directly in Germany and in many other markets.

"As someone who has played the guitar myself for many years, I could naturally relate very well to Mr Pönnighaus' situation. The application of the TOUCH was the best solution for the patient. The anatomical design of the stem is outstanding, so the implant fixation is excellent, while the cap and the dual-mobility component facilitate an increased range of motion."

The prosthesis has been specially developed to enable patients to enjoy particularly natural hand function. Thanks to the combination of the anatomical socket and dual mobility concept, many patients can put weight on their thumb again more quickly and resume everyday activities earlier.

"I was overwhelmed because after eight weeks I was able to do everything normally with my left hand again. For me, the KeriMedical TOUCH prosthesis is a game changer"

A few weeks after the operation, Wolfgang was pain-free and able to make music again.
Since then, he has shared his story with many other people - and is always surprised at how many have similar problems and still live with pain for years.
